While many classes may be scheduled with the Art Center, several instructors will add their classes to our calendar if interest is expressed. Below are some opportunities that can be made available “on demand”.
Oil or Pastel One Day Workshop
The Art Association of Henry County is excited to offer its members and community the opportunity to experience instruction from Mary Ann Davis, a member of the American Impressionist Society.
Students: 6 minimum/12 maximum.

Art Annex Shaffer Studio
“Emphasis will be on how to make your paintings stronger using composition, color and value. There will be a short demo in the morning leaving plenty of time for one on one instruction at the easel. I will try to give each individual exercises to help work progress.” Mary Ann Davis

Elephant Leaf Slab Workshop

Create a unique tray or coffee table dish.

Glass Slumping
Instructor Angela Dishman
Bring your bottles, or use ours, and join the fun! Students learn the process of cleaning & preparing glass for the kiln, as well as prepping kiln shelves. Second class has students embellishing their melted pieces with wire, beads, and more. Create a spoon rest, cheese tray, wall hanging.
Students: 3 minimum/8 maximum
Ages 21 & older
Art Center’s lower level Pottery Studio
In addition, slump mold classes may be arranged. Students create clay molds to melt glass bottles on, making a dish or tray.
Supplies provided, but bring other bottles or decorative elements you wish to incorporate. Students are welcome to bring a bottle of wine to enjoy.

Fine Art Instruction from Kerry Holsapple
Experience authentic studio instruction through dialogue, demonstrations, & individualized coaching from Artist Kerry Holsapple, director/instructor of Atelier Indiana, with over 40 years of experience teaching the fine arts of drawing, painting, & picture-making. Kerry also has direct lineage to the 600-year-old master tradition through the Boston School of Painting.
Receive group & individualized instruction.
Participants supply all materials, and a material list is available upon registration.
Sketch Class

Learn to sketch using a model, seeing design, essential lines, gesture, seeing intervals, junctions, angles, masses, relationships, ensemble, and more.
Experiment with various media of your choice.

Tone Class

Learn to see and paint tone values via tone block studies. Palette setup. Painting mediums & painting techniques. The tonal scale.

Color Class

3 sessions/18 studio hours
Learn to see and paint color values via color block studies. Basic color theory, color forms, & color mixing. Palette setup. Painting mediums & painting techniques. Making a color chart. Paint six color studies of primary & secondary color schemes.

Composition Class

Learn how to compose pictures, including: elements and principles of design, formats, selection and arrangement of lines, tones, colors, spotting studies from art, composing from nature, imaginary compositions.

Still Life Class

4 sessions/12 studio hours
Learn the process of painting a still life from nature, including: making a thumbnail sketch, sketching a design, making a transfer sheet, palette setup, seeing color & color mixing, painting mediums & painting techniques, color blocking, keying color ensemble, color modulation, modeling form, edges.

Head Study Class

Learn the process of painting a head study from life, including: making a thumbnail sketch, sketching a design, drawing the human head, getting a likeness, making a transfer sheet, palette setup, seeing color & color mixing, painting mediums & painting techniques, color blocking, keying color ensemble, color modulation, modeling form, edges.
